Usertesting Review: Make some extra cash testing websites on your PC, Mac, Smartphone or Tablet
Usertesting.com is a cool site that offers clients a peek into what users see when visiting their sites. Smart website owners, programmers, inventors and more want to know what real people think of their designs and concepts, potentially before releasing them to the world. As a consumer, this is where you come in. If you’re interested in making a few extra bucks a month, you can get paid to give your thoughts on all of the above.
Affiliate disclaimer: There are likely paid ads somewhere on this page, but this particular post doesn’t contain any affiliate links. This blog offers my intention of sharing great ways to make and save money with anyone who might be interested. Sometimes I come across ways to do that where there’s no direct benefit for me. But that’s ok because if you make money testing websites with this opportunity, we’ll all be just a little happier, won’t we?
How it works:
Usertesting offers tasks through both their website and an app for your smartphone or tablet. On the PC or Mac, you can install a browser extension that will ding whenever a new job pops up. I leave the website up all day and wait to hear the ding. Many opportunities pop up daily, and I don’t qualify for them all. Each task starts with a quick survey and if you qualify, the job opens up and you’ll be asked to test.
My Usertesting Review:
I actually love this site and I enjoy getting paid to test websites. I personally qualify for between 2 and 4 tasks per week. They usually pay between $3 and $10 for a completed task. So once a week, Usertesting sends a nice little payment to my paypal account. Between $10 and $30. For messing around in my free time taking a peek at neat websites, concepts and games, I’m happy to earn $50 to $100 per month. You may not qualify for as many, or you may qualify for more, so if you’re looking for a way to earn some extra cash, I highly recommend this one.
What to expect:
Most of the usertesting tasks ask for a recording of you speaking your thoughts about what you’re seeing online. This requires a microphone and occasionally video. Once you accept a test, you’ll check your microphone and begin recording. They are basically looking for you to talk your way through what you’re seeing, feeling and doing so your thoughts, opinions and obstacles are recorded for the website owners to hear/see. Your recordings will also be reviewed by the website owners and given a rating. As your rating stays high, you’ll be asked to qualify for more tests.
Types of tests:
Usertesting offers several types of tests that you might qualify for. There are peek tests which are about 5 minutes and pay $3 each. Mobile testing is done via the Usertesting app on a smartphone or tablet. Prototype/wireframe tests are mockup versions of websites that you’ll take a look at and provide your thoughts. They also sometimes offer interesting testing tasks that are moderated or involve organizing content in a way that makes sense to you. Of course, you’ll be asked to speak your thoughts throughout each kind of testing. This is how the clients can better understand how you will receive what they are offering via web or mobile app.
I say Go For It!
So to wrap it up, I give a Usertesting review of GREAT! This is an easy, fun and exciting way to earn extra cash online. You can actually do this job from anywhere that you can hook into wifi. I’ve also researched other people’s Usertesting reviews and most of the complaints center around not enough qualifying tests. So as per usual, this is not an opportunity that can replace your full-time job, but it’s one more thing you can add to your list of money-making opportunities. Get enough of them put together and you’ll have a nice chunk of change in your Paypal account at the end of the month.
What are your thoughts?
Do you have experience with Usertesting or another company where you test websites for pay? Do you have a Usertesting review to add? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences with this. So far, I’ve enjoyed myself immensely giving my recorded thoughts in exchange for a few dollars. This is one of my favorite extra income opportunities. What do you think? Let me know in the comments. 🙂
